As I mention in my inaugural blog post, I am preoccupied with the lifelong effects of early childhood loss of a parent – especially a boy’s loss of his father. Many decades passed before I finally addressed my own invalidated grief; intensive psychotherapy and grief counselling literally saved my life! My ‘rebirth’ culminated in joining (with great trepidation) a bereavement group led by renowned grief expert, Dawn Cruchet. In fact, this is where I met my wife, Natalie Segall, who had – like me - also been (gently) encouraged by Dawn Cruchet to deal with childhood traumatic father-loss.
Inspired by her mentor, Dawn, Natalie went back to school, attaining her Master’s degree and many other qualifications, in record time. Natalie is now a Montreal-based certified loss and grief therapist and counselor, consultant, facilitator, and educator, with training in psychotherapy. She provides support to all those dealing with issues of death, loss, and bereavement. Natalie is also coordinator of the Good Grief Workshops for Children and Adolescents. This biannual, free workshop is for children and adolescents 4 – 15 years old who have experienced the death of someone close to them. Natalie’s website is goodgriefcentral.com.
